Lesson 8

Lesson 8

Year 1

In this eighth lesson, children learn that a verb can be made up of two words — a being verb and a doing verb. The PowerPoint introduces these in simple, child-friendly language with examples such as is running, are jumping and was playing. Pupils see how the being verb works together with the doing verb to make a complete verb phrase.

For the follow-up independent task, children complete verb phrases by adding a doing verb to a being verb. This activity gives young pupils clear, practical experience in recognising and using verb phrases to build complete sentences.
