Lesson 7

Lesson 7

Year 1

In this seventh lesson, children explore being verbs and how they are used in sentences. The PowerPoint introduces verbs such as is, am, are, was, and were and shows that these verbs tell us what someone or something is, not what they do. Pupils see how a subject and a being verb alone do not make a full sentence and learn how to add extra words to complete the idea.

For the follow-up independent tasks, children first add missing information to sentences with being verbs. They then match a subject, a being verb and extra words to create their own complete sentences. Together, these activities give pupils clear, practical experience in recognising being verbs and using them to build complete sentences.
