Lesson 2

Lesson 2

Year 1

In this second lesson, children learn that every sentence needs a subject — the who or what the sentence is about. The PowerPoint introduces the subject in simple, child-friendly language and models how to spot it in short sentences. Pupils are then guided to add subjects to incomplete sentences and practise identifying the subject in examples.

Two pupil tasks are included to reinforce the learning: one where children add their own subjects to finish sentences and another where they underline or record the subject already in a sentence. Together, these activities give young pupils a clear understanding of how subjects form an essential part of every sentence.
